TEMPORARY BUILDINGS

Council Seeks

Assurance

The Canterbury Education Board will be asked by the Christchurch City Council for a written assurance that buildings being removed to the Teachers’ College land in Montreal Street will be removed by February, 1974.

As the Government was not bound by the Town and Country Planning Act and as the property was in an area providing for educational uses as “predominant” in the council’s planning scheme, no objections had been raised to the provision of temporary rooms on the site, subject to the board having regard to the amenities of the locality, the town-planning committee reported to the council last evening. The buildings complied with the structural requirements.

The committee did not want the temporary accommodation to remain any longer than necessary and was relying on the undertaking given by the board to dispense with the buildings when the Ham site was ready.
