New Award Provisions (N.Z. P.ress Association) WELLINGTON, May 18. . Extended hours for work for retail grocers’ assistants throughout New Zealand, except the northern industrial district excluding ’ Gisborne, are provided under a new award issued for the industry by the Court of Arbitration. The award extends evening work hours from 5.30 to 6 o’clock, four days a week, and provides for 9 p.m. closing on either the normal Friday or the newly-sanctioned Thursday. Hours are still 7i daily, with a maximum of 10 on the late night. Wage increases are incorporated in the new award. Branch managers or charge assistants over five others receive a minimum of $40.35, an increase of $1.24 weekly. Casual rates are increased between 2c and 4c hourly, and the award includes new special long-service holiday clauses. It is retrospective to April 1.
