AUCKLAND. With I. Baudlnet, D. Walker and P. Gunning all winning their first matches in the final against Wellington yesterday the Slazenger Shield boys' tennis trophy seems certain to remain In Auckland for the eighth year in succession. However, the Howe Shield competition for girls promises to be a much closer affair. Otago was leading Canterbury, 3-1 in the final when play stopped today. SlaaengOr Shield.—Semi-finals: Auckland beat Southland, io-o; Wellington beat Canterbury, 7-3. Final (Auekland.nam.es first): I. Baudlnet beat 8. Mensiea, e-i, 8- P. Gunning beat A. Maz*y, 0-0, 6-2; p. Walker beat J. Bock. 6- 6-s, a-0; R. Wallace led p. Liddell, 6-4 (unfinished). . Howe Shield. Semi-finals: Canterbury beat Hutt Valley, 9- Otago beat Auckland. Il sets to 10. Final (Otago nemos first): Miss 6, Collins boat Miss C. Hampton, 0-0, 8-0; MISS S. Armstrong boat Mist C. Ralfs, 0-2, 7-S; MISS s. Stirling lost to Miss S. MOOra, 3-1, 4-J: MISI S. Rlakelv beat Miss R. Dillon. S-7, 7- 6-1.
