Blaiberg’s Condition CAPE TOWN, May 18. Dr Philip Blaiberg, the world’s longest surviving heart transplant patient, who returned to Groote Schuur Hospital on Friday, was reported to be tired and a little weak yesterday, but not seriiously ill. Sources close to the transplant team said Dr Blaiberg was not showing any signs of the severe rejection or other symptoms that he had last year. They were commenting on! the latest brief hospital bulle-l tin. This said his condition “is causing some concern, but he has responded to treatment since his admission.” The bulletin seemed to indicate his condition has worsened slightly since the announcement that he would be allowed to go home in a couple of days. But Mrs Eileen Blaiberg told reporters he was doing “very nicely indeed ” Speaking before the latest bulletin she said there was definitely no sign of the rejection of the transplanted heart Londom—Britain’s third heart transplant patient was fully conscious and comfortable, a bulletin said last night, 24 hours after the operation in a London hospital.
