FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A cold front moving northwards over the country should be crossing central parts of the North Island early this morning; a stationary anticyclone near northern New Zealand is weakening as a new anticyclone in the southern Tasman Sea advances eastwards on to the south of the country. Forecast:
Canterbury.—Light to moderate easterlies; overcast at first with occasional light rain; the rain should ease slowly late in the day but cloud is expected to persist; cold. Buller and Westland.—Light variable winds; fine; mild in the afternoon, otherwise cool.
Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Light to moderate south-east winds; a few scattered light showers at first; becoming fine during the morning, though remaining cool. Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura Coast. —Fresh to strong southerlies, decreasing gradually during the day; cloudy with occasional light rain; the rain should ease slowly late in the day.
Outlook: some rain developing in Westland ; elsewhere fair. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
