PRODUCE FOR N.Z.
Steps Taken To Eliminate Ants (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SUVA, May 14.
Fiji’s Department of Agriculture is taking steps to eliminate ants from produce exported to New Zealand. Reports says ants found in cases of fruit from the island territories are species not found in New Zealand. Complaints refer mainly to produce handled at airports. Containers are now being sprayed and shippers have been asked to shade bananas at packing stations with fresh leaves rather than old leaves gathered from the ground.
