TYRE-ORDER SURVEY
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 15. A nation-wide . survey of tyre firms by the Minister of Transport had shown that the number of cancelled orders for retreads or new tyres had been negligible, the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) said today. Ministry of Transport officers had been in touch with tyre firms from Whangarei to Invercargill after newspaper reports of cancellations arising from the suspension for two months of the regulations requiring a l/16in tread pattern. “The object of the moratorium was to ensure that motorists would not be placed outside the law through no fault of their own, and I am pleased to learn that no further action by me is justified at this stage,” Mr Gordon said.
