(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, May 15.
Student teachers today supported the Educational Institute’s decision to seek the abolition of the teaching bond.
Three representatives' of the Student Teacher Association are attending the institute’s conference as observers. The institute’s decision yesterday to seek the abolition of the teaching bond was of great interest to student teachers, said the president of their association (Mr D. J. O’Rourke).
The bonding system has ' been . a contentious issue among student teachers for some years. “This move makes it pos- ' sible for the institute to nego- : tiate with the Government for t further improvements to t teacher training and the . periods of service immediately after training," he said.
