Fairlie Beats Howe
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright/ LONDON. The New Zealand Davis Cup representative, B. Fairlie, continued on his winning way in the London hard-court tennis championships at the Hurlingham Club. Fairlie, one of the seeded players, beat R. N. Howe (Australia) ( convincingly although Howe won the first set easily. Fairlie won 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. New Zealand’s, other representative left in the tournament after the third round, J. R. McDonald, was eliminated in the fourth round by D. A. Lloyd (Great Britain). Lloyd won 64, 12-10. Mrs M. Court, the Australian first seed add titleholder,
had a tough fight to overcome Miss C. Molesworth, the British under-21 champion, 64, 6-3, in the third round of the women's singles. Mrs Court had to deal with some tricky ground strokes before downing her opponent. In another game, Miss J. Heldman, the American second seed, beat the Australian, Miss K. Harris, 64), 64. The British junior Wimbledon champion, F. Whitaker, is to be reported to the Lawn Tennis Association after an incident at the championships. The referee, Captain M. B. Gibion, said the incident occurred in his under-21 match against M. Collins, of Ewell. After losing 7-5,6-3, Whitaker threw his racket over the net It landed near his opponent Whitaker was soon afterwards disqualified from the tournament
