Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Although supplies were ample, the demand for many vegetables fell at the Christchurch produce markets on Monday. Sprouts sold at $3.20 to $4, a drop of 55c from last weeks price of $4.20 to $4.55 a case. Parsnips and cabbages sold at prices 20c cheaper than last week. Spinach fell from up to $1.60 a case last week, to $1 to $1.45 a case this week. Fruit sold at higher prices. Grapes rose 12c from last weeks price of 40c to 60c a pound, and tamarillos rose 30c. selling at up to $3.20 a case. Fresh supplies of bananas from Ecuador arrived yesterday. The official range of prices ! supplied by the ChristchYirch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers Association was:— Silver Beet.—3oc to 50c a sack. Beetroot.—To 50c a box. Cabbages.—2oc to 30c a case. Carrots.—soc to $1 a case. Cauliflowers.—4oc to 90c a case. Onions.—To 90c a sugar bag. Parsnips.—6oc to $1.20 a case. Sprouts.—s3.2o to $4 a case. Swedes.—sl.2o to $1.30 a sugar bag. Potatoes.—To $1.30 a sugar bag. ' Spring Onions.—To 50c a dozen bunches. Radishes. —To 50c a dozen bunches. Lettuces. —80c to $1.20 a case. Leeks.—To $1.30 a dozen bunches. Celery.—4oc to 70c a case. Spinach.—sl to $1.45 a case. Cucumbers.—To $l.BO a carton. Tomatoes. —6c to 30c a pound. Grapes.—46c to 72c. a pound. Tamarillos.—To $3.20 a case. Chinese Gooseberries. To $2.80 a case.
