OFF-COURSE BETTING
Distribution Of Profit (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Racing and Trotting Conferences had no power to vary the method of distribution of the profit which accrued from the operations of off-course betting, said the president of the Racing Conference and chairman of the Totalisator Agency Board (Mr R. A. Whyte) today. The board, either of its own volition or on the recommendation of the conferences, could amend the present scheme, said Mr Whyte, but any such alteration had to be approved by the Minister of Internal Affairs. .Mr Whyte’s statement was in reply to newspaper criticism that racing was subsidising trotting Under the present system.
