1003 GIVE BLOOD

Record New Donors In April, 1003 donations were made to the North Canterbury Blood Transfusion Service—727 at the blood donor rooms, and 276 at the mobile unit, the secretary for the service (Mr A. T. Sindlen) said yesterday. Of the donors who gave blood at the rooms, 97 were new, a record number for a month, said Mr Sindlen. This was largely through the efforts of the New Brighton Jaycees. At Oxford, 106 persons gave blood (14 new donors); 75 at Scargill (19 new); and 95 at Cheviot (13 new). The mobile unit would be at the Hornby Working Men’s Club social hall from 9.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, said Mr Sindlen. This would be the fourth visit to Hornby, and although 207 persons gave blood on the second visit there were only 117 donors on the second visit, said Mr Sindlen. He said that he hoped the attendance would rise again on Thursday.
