LONGBURN DISPUTE
Terms Of Offer ‘Not Usual’
(N.Z. Press Association)
I PALMERSTON NORTH, May 13.
; The terms of resumption of : beef killing and boning at Longburn, suggested yesterday by the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand), were not those usually agreed to in the freezing industry, the manager of the Co-operative Wholesale Society’s Longburn freezing works, Mr T. Hastie said this morning. The position was further complicated because some of the dismissed boners now had other jobs in the industry, and might not be available at Longburn, he said. Mr Hastie’s reply to Mr Shand’s offer to call a compulsory conference of representatives of management and union has been sent to the Minister, who will not return to his office to receive it until this evening.
