Development
Sir,—Mr L. C. Bayliss, economist for the Bank of New Zealand, is to be congratulated on his masterly and clear summing up at the National Development Conference of New Zealand’s economic situation and the dilemma it poses. It has been said many times that one solution could be found by everyone working a little harder for the same reward in the interests of our future prosperity, as dramatically illustrated in the economy of West Germany. Mr J. N. Laurenson, chairman of the
distribution committee of the National Development Conference, was so right when he said the answer lay in leadership. In times of national stress and strain, a loud and clear rallying call from an elected Government carefully explaining the crisis or situation has never failed to.draw a positive response from the average Kiwi.—Yours, etc, N. E. LOBB. Wellington, May 10, 1969.
