Leading the New Brighton challenge was B. D. Kirtness, who last week had a remarkable unfinished break of 125. This time his score included another fine break of 82, which enabled him to beat R. O Callaghan by 280-91. He was well backed by N. Thomas, who won a close encounter. E. Simons (Post Office) recorded an unusual feat in his defeat of R. Franks (Woolston I) In two successive breaks of 47 and 49, Simons scored the maximum number of 15 consecutive losing red hazards in each break and in one of them did not have his opponent s ball available to him at the start.
