FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —An anticyclone covers New Zealand, and a deep depression far to the south-west is moving east. Forecast:

Canterbury, Buller. Westland, Nelson and Marlborough, except the Sounds.—Light to moderate variable winds; clear or partly cloudy, with mild to warm afternoon temperatures.

Marlborough Sounds.—Fresh northerlies, becoming strong in exposed places; occasionally cloudy but otherwise fine, with moderate temperatures.

Outlook: cloudy, with rain at times in Buller and Westland and in the Alps; elsewhere fair.
