Ulster
Sir, —If southern Irish Roman Catholics had not attacked Dublin’s Government buildings on their 1916 day of anti-British revolt, Ireland might not be divided today. While true Irishmen died fighting Germany at Flanders and Gallipoli that wrongful revolt happened with German advice and guns against hardpressed Britain. True Ulstermen are Presbyterian or Church of Ireland Protestants loyal to our Queen, not the Pope. Roman Catholics will not take the oath and cannot be policemen. There is no Protestant freedom in Catholic Spain, Columbia, etc., but all Northern Irish get free social security dental and hospital treatment, pensions, full employment—not so in Eire. London buys all Eire’s dairy exports, guaranteeing Eire’s pound with sterling. Thus most Ulster folk want continued Westminster union, and no terrorists within or from the Irish Republic.— Yours, etc., P.H.R. j May 12, 1969.
