A Baby Carrier Worn Forward
One of the many readers to express interest in Mrs Anne Marshall’s system of carrying her baby on her back —reported in “The Press” last week—has a different slant. Mrs Jennifer Wybourne, of Ham Road, carried her third child in a similar harness, but wore it forward instead of on her back.
She adopted the idea after seeing the harness on display at a La Leche League conference which she attended in Chicago in 1964. When her twins were bom she passed it on to a Christchurch friend, who has it in constant use.
“In the United States they are made in bright cotton velveteen and look very smart on,” said Mrs Wybourne yesterday. “The carrier has a head support, and when it is worn on the front it is suitable for even very tiny babies. You can also look down and see the baby.” The carrier' can also be worn on the back.
The Christchurch branch of the La Leche League is considering making up carriers for their members. Both Mrs Wybourne (76-887) and Mrs Marshall, 260 Woodham Road (75-681), are happy to advise mothers interested in the use of the carriers.
