Women Woolgrowers Going On Tour
Two women who are farmers of long standing were among a party of 23 who left Christchurch yesterday afternoon for a woolgrowers’ tour of Australia.
Miss M. Casey and Mrs O. M. Marfell farm in the
Awatere district of Marlborough. During their tour of New South Wales, South Australia, and Queensland they will visit outback stations, sheep sales, and wool yards. The 20-day tour concludes with a visit to the Sydney sheep show at the end of this month. Miss Casey, who has lived for 50 years on the Awatere property she farms with her brother, is still actively en-
gaged in farming. Mrs Marfell has farmed for 40 years, and is now retired. This is her fourth trip to Australia but the first for Miss Casey. Although they do not consider this a “busman’s holiday,” both are going prepared to observe and to learn. A total of 12 women are with the party, some accompanying their husbands. The tour returns to Christchurch on June 1.
