Pit Stops
Jackie Stewart’s win in the Spanish Grand Prix means that he has now won both the first two world championship events, and has a good lead in the drivers’ championship, particularly as Graham Hill, second in the South African G.P., failed to finish in Spain. Matra leads the manufacturers championship. Bruce McLaren is second in the drivers’ championship with eight points to Stewart’s 18, ar\d Hill is third with six points. * * ¥
The new Lotus Formula I cars did not appear in the Spanish Grand Prix, and Lotus says that work on them was held up because urgent work was needed on the Indianapolis cars. The new Lotus ears are now expected to make their first Grand Prix appearance next month, in the Dutch Grand Prix. * * ¥
Graham Mcßae, New Zealand's “Driver to Europe" for 1969 equalled the fiilverstone club circuit lap record in the Frank Williams Brabham BT23C when he won a formula libre race at the circuit last month. It was Mcßae's first win in Britain. ¥ ¥ ¥
The British saloon car championship is at present led by A. Poole, who drives a Mini Cooper 1000 S entered by Equipe Arden. The car has a special eight-port alloy cylinder head and produces about 112 b.h.p.
