Placing For McCleary

The Christchurch motorcycle road racer, K. McCleary, was unable to contest the final round of the New Zealand 250 c.c. road racing series at Auckland during the week-end because of an illness in his family, But, contrary to expectations, his absence made no difference to the major placings and he finished the season second equal with G. Stott (Lower Hutt) and K. Williams (Auckland) in the national light-weight championship series—a remarkable effort considering he contested only five of the 10 championship events. Stott led the final race for 10 laps before retiring with a broken primary chain and the two prominent Auckland riders, P. Richards and G. Perry, managed to finish only fourth and fifth, respectively. The race was won by L. Anderson (Auckland) on a 250 c.c. Suzuki with S. Melsop (Auckland) second and C. Kingston (Wanganui) third.
