Parliament's Plans

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 12.

The first full sitting day of this year’s session of Parliament will be devoted to hearing reports from select committees on bills held over during the summer recess and to the introduction of some new biHs.

The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said today after a meeting of the Cabinet that on Friday Parliament would consider “purely formal business.”

Parliament will be officially opened on Thursday by the Governor-General (Sir Arthur Porritt). Mr Holyoake said the Cabinet this morning discussed mainly Budget matters.

“We are at the final stages of drafting the estimates for the Budget. The estimates have to go to the Government printer fairly soon,” he said. He would not say when the Government expected to introduce this year’s Budget.
