New Members Of TV Committee
Two young people, an apprentice cabinetmaker and a first-year university student, on Friday attended their first meeting as members of the N.Z.B.C.’s Southern Regional Programme Advisory Committee in Christchurch.
They were Mr B. W. Davis, of Christchurch, winner of awards for outstanding progress at the Technical Institute, and Miss S. Battye, a student at the University of Canterbury. The chairman of the committee (Mr J. G. Barnes, of Dunedin) said after its meeting that three of four new members had made a serious contribution to the meeting and all would be valuable members. The other two new members were Constable H. C. Hollander, of Cheviot, and Mrs I. O. Simpson, of Dunedin, a librarian at Otago University. The four new members replace others who have retired from the committee. Asked how members were chosen, the secretary (Mr M. E. Lloyd) said that 15 were appointed by the N.Z.B.C. An additional five were nominated by the committee itself, and the two young people were two of these five. A sub-committee had been set up and members of the committee were asked to submit names. “Names came from various quarters,” said Mr Lloyd. After interviewing prospective members, the committee made its selection. It was aimed to represent the whole of the community.
