The New Zealander, R. J. Charles, improved two strokes on his first-round 70 to lead the overseas contingent and stay within, one stroke of the leaders aftef the second round of the SUSIOO,OOO Texas Open golf tournament, United Press International reported. Charles’ 68 today put him with three other players—including the first round leader S. Reid—on 138, a stroke behind the five tied for first place; J. Cupit, B. Yancey, F. Marti, D. Sanders and D. Refram.
The three Australian players—B. Crampton, B. Stanton and K. Nagle—qualified for the remaining two rounds, but will have to produce some sparkling golf to take out the main prize money. They are on 144, 145, and 146 respectively.
