Qualifying Rounds
The first two South Island qualifying rounds for this year's New Zealand ploughing championships have been held. At a match held last week at Woodbury in South Canterbury by the Geraldine Young Farmers’ Club, S. M. Allison, of Moneymore, near Milton. Otago, who is . the only man to have won the New Zealand championship twice, was successful. With 162 J points, he was more than 10 points ahead of J. Rawlinson, of Methven, with 151 J points. D. Brown, of Temuka, with 1381 points, was third. J. C. Kyle, of Seadown, near Timaru, who was second in the: New Zealand championships near Blenheim last year, was fouith, and E. J. Croy, of Wakanui, a former New Zealand champion, was fifth. Earlier, at Papakaio, the man who qualified to plough at this: year’s championship for thej Atlantic Silver Plough was J. P. j Stalker, of Greenpark, who has' ploughed in two previous' national championships.
With 145 points, he headed off by eight points P. D. Carter, of the same district, who was fifth in last year's national finals. Kyle was third with 136 points and W. A. Simpson, of Kia Ora, near Oamaru, also a former national champion, was fourth, and Allison was fifth.
This year's final will be held about four miles from Masterion on July 19.
