Narrow Win By Otago
A goal by the New Zealand international. M. Ferguson, in the second half enabled Otago to beat Southland, 1-0, in a representative soccer match at Dunedin on Saturday.
The Otago wing. R. Neilson, was brought down Just outside the penalty area, took the freekick himself, and neatly chipped the ball over the Southland defenders for Ferguson to head into the net.
Neither side managed to gain control in the mid-field, and play was largely of the kick-and-rush variety. Otago made its best progress on the wings, through Neilson and T. Schraa. and Southland through the middle, via the aggression of D. Carse.
In the end, after strong bouts of pressure, Southland was unfortunate not to equalise. In the under-18 match, Otago won, 13-0.
