Miss Witte returns
A former Carlton player who has been absent from Christchurch for three seasons, Miss J. Witte, hai returned home from the . United Kingdom where she represented Surrey and toe South of England at women’s hockey.
Miss Witte, keenly interested in her game, had ample oppertunlty to follow toe sport in London, joining toe Wimbledon club and playing in the left-half position. She was a successful trialist for Surrey toe last two. seasons, playing for toe county against other counties In Southern England. Surrey finished third in its “home-and-away” matches last season.
Miss Witte, who was selected to play for the South of England against other regions, preferred playing on English hockey grounds, which were mostly privately owned and carefully tended. Players were often invited to play for clubs other than their own In tournaments and on tours.
Miss Witte will play for her old elub while in Christchurch. And would she like to return to English hoekey? Most certainly.
