RACING Amberley Top-weights Should Have Good Day

Top-weights should be good pointe-earners in the races chosen for the on-course patrons’ sweepstake at the Amberley Racing Club’s annual meeting at Rangiora today. z ' ?r -

Sweepstake races, with the respective topweights, are the Leithfield Handicap (Lady Glory), Greenwood Handicap (Coeur de Chene), Amberley Cup (Sandbank), Glasnevin Handicap (Auto’s Pride), and Starky Memorial Handicap (Time and Tide).

Lady Glory has earned favouritism for the Leithfield Hack Handicap after an impressive win over 11 furlongs at Wingatui on Anzac Day. That followed a third at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting.

The Leithfield Handicap comes in for further attention because it is the second leg of today’s on-course concession double.

Warm Up is the only runner with form of any account recently in the Brackenfield Hurdles, first leg of the course double, and there will be no inviting odds available on the Warm Up-Lady Glory combination. Lady Glory, Couer de Chene, Sandbank, and Auto's Pride are from Washdyke stables, which should be in for a good day.

Sandbank won the Dominion Handicap at Riccarton two starts back and he has come into stronger reckoning as one of Every Post’s strongest rivals since rain softened the track this week. F. H. Skelton, who won on Sandbank at Ricearton, will ride him again today. The Amberley Cup field is a strong one by any South Island standards, stronger than the one that would have been brought together if the club had raced on its home course.

Sailing Home, the Great Autumn Handicap third and Aeolian which dead-heated for first with Donald Mac over a mile at Riccarton at Easter, are others with good chances in the first leg of today's straight TJLB. double. The Washdyke apprentice, G Heaton, has been engaged to ride Silver Fountain, a double acceptor, in the Amberley Cup, and Gayspot in the Starky Memorial. Other mounts for Heaton today will be .Henteina, Rathnally, and Star Tume. H. Pateman will ride Dowry, a form runner in Hie Waipara Handicap. Dowry is a half-brother to and a stablemate of Sandbank and was a close second to Domic at Rangiora two starts back.
