Gaol Term For Farmer

AUCKLAND, May 9.
A 27-year-old farmer. Michael Shane Hand, was sentenced in the Supreme Court this afternoon to six months goal and fined $lOOO on two charges of stealing a total of 71 sheep. Hand had denied charges of stealing 41 Romney-Border-Leicester ewes valued at $225, the property of Michael John Howard, at Kaikohe, on or about January 22 this year, and of stealing 30 Romney ewes valued at $204, the property of Frederick Douglas Ludermann. Mr Justice North said he must impose imprisonment. The normal and proper sentence would be two years but he proposed to take a more lenient course.
