HOGAN’S LAST

Keen To Get Fust Time In his final appearance before be moves to Auckland, R. J. Hogan, will be keen to take fastest time at the .Mornby-Christchurch club's 40-mile open handicap Round-the-Hafbour race today. However, his task will not be an easy one. From the scratch mark, he will have to contend with the Canterbury champion and fastest man last year, B. G. Stockwell, while a strong bunch on the >6min mark should ensure that the race is ridden at a lively pace. Included among this group of six are the Canterbury representatives last year, H. R. Bush and I. D. McLean, the renowned hill-climber, D. B. i Hewson, and the fast-improv--iiig senior, B. R. Chisholm. Any one of these riders is capable of winning fastest time, while the recent fine form of G. R. Sword will make him a possibility from the break mark of 3min. The 1967 winner, G. B. Ireland, who made his senior debut for Canterbury at the national road championships last year, has been given a very generous handicap. He has, done a big mileage in training for some months and has considerable ability on the hills. It is probable that he will quickly ride away from his fellow 25min markers. Ireland’s only real opposition appears to be R. Kennedy, who begins 3min before him. The race will begin in Osborne’s Road, Halswell, then swings out through Tai Tapu, Motukarara, Gebbie's Pass and Teddington to Diamond Harbour. The riders turn there back to Teddington, then on to Governor’s Bay and Corsair Bay.
