FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A deep depression is centred east of New Zealand; an intense anticyclone lies over south-east Australia. Forecast: Canterbury and coastal areas of Marl-borough.—South-westerly winds, gale force about Banks Peninsula and the Kaikoura Coast and strong in most other places; cold and changeable with occasional showers but increasing fair intervals. Buller and Westland. —Light to moderate southerly winds; fine and cool. Nelson and Central Marlborough.—Southwest winds fresh at times; partly cloudy and cool.
