TROTTING Dutch Courage Expected To Win At Oamaru

The scratching yesterday of His Nibs has brought Dutch Courage into favour for the North Otago Pace, the first leg of the T.A.B. concession double at die Oamaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting tomorrow.

Rain during the last few days has eased the track and this, too, has heightened prospects of a win for Dutch Courage, which has shown outstanding form under winter conditions. He is a dour stayer lacking perhaps the ability to sprint fast at the end of his races. However, a stern struggle over two miles on a soft track will see him in a most favourable light Alandria has raced most unluckily lately. She finished a fine fifth behind Baffle Boy on Anzac Day after being knocked down near the five furlongs. If she can handle the conditions with confidence she should take beating. Barrhill has finished third in his last two starts, both runs being over two miles. His chances of success look fairly bright Khinegolde, Loyal Friend and Showpiece are capable pacers engaged on the limit Dryden Smoke and Seafield Countess, both on 24 yards, are in fine form at present and they should take beating.

True Averil’s third to Prosper at Forbury Park last week suggests that he will take catching in the C. L. Ayson Handicap. He is at his best when allowed to make his own rules in front and he should be able to adopt the role of pacemaker in this field. Martin Twinkle has won at his two latest starts on rainaffected tracks. The heavier the going the better he will go and he should make a bold bid to gain his third win in less than a month. Intrepid was unlucky at Forbury Park last week and in spite of a bad draw, he should be prominent Mobelle, Michaeloe, Thurberroyal, and Winning Song appeal most of the remainder. Improved weather is forecast and the track is expected to be easy. Field, with form, for the doubles are: ON-COURSE DOUBLE 11 a.m.— WELCOME HANDICAP $750; 2:19 class; 2m.
