Time and Tide handled • soft track better than most trlallsts at Riccarton yesterday to advance his claims for the Starky Memorial, second leg of th* Amberley Racing Club’s T.A.R. double tomorrow. 1 His time of Imln 22 2-ssec was the fastest for a solo six furlongs of the training on the No. 6 grass, which had been affected by 27 points of rain. Trlallsts also had to run into a strong south-westerly for dart of the way, but Time and Tide, with G. Jackson up, showed strength and adeptness on the soft footing to complete his task in attractive style.

Every Post (Jackson) and Tumble (Wilson) stayed on terms to the end of six furlongs in imln 22 l-Ssec after running the opening three in 40 3-ssec. Pango, whose tendency to tear awsy does not make her easy to ride over a bit of ground, was held back to give Displease and Pseudonym a start of three lengths to the

mile. She quickly reduced the gap to them but Displease made all the running to beat her by a length. Pseudonym was another length back at the rear. Pango took Imln 59 4-ssec lor the mile and 44sec for the last three furlongs. David William (Low) and Harold Bank (Donaldson) recorded Imln 23 4-ssec tor six furlongs, quickening for the final three in 41 1-ssec. They galloped towards the end of the training after there had been much wear and tear on the track. Donee (Jackson) recorded Imln 26 4-ssec for six furlongs, and 42sec for the final three.

Uncertain (Jackson) appeared to gallop confidently in the conditions to record 41 2-ssec for the last three furlongs of his work. New Mint took 41 4-Ssec, and Grey Ghost (Low) 41 2-ssec In beating Silver Charm (Canton) by three lengths. Cosmetic (Moir) came right into reckoning tor the Amberley club’s Starky Memorial by running five furlongs strongly. Her 40 3-saec for the final furlongs was excellent In the conditions. Bright Blue (R. McCann) and Offender (Gullery) sprinted six furlongs, the final three in 41 2-ssec. The stablemates, Count Como (R. McCann) and Lord Macquarie (Moir), ran In from the six furlongs In Imln 24 l-ssec, the final three in 40 4-ssec. They are both trained by D. J. Thistoll and are rival candidates for the Seadown Hack Handicap at Rangiora, Kiowa (Reed) sprinted six furlongs in Imln 23 3-ssec, the final three in 41 3-ssec.
