ADDINGTON MARKET Values Easier For Plain Calves

Best quality steer calves continued to meet a,good inquiry at the Addington market yesterday, but as the sale progressed values for the small and plainer calves edged back to values ruling two weeks ago.

In cold, wet conditions, a smaller gallery followed the sale, interest being confined to the better quality class of steer calf.

In the store sheep section, forward - conditioned wether lambs continued to meet good competition i from freezing buyers, values being firm. Plainer carry-over lambs, however, met a weaker sale. Breeding ewes met good competition from the freezing trade, values being on a par with those being paid for ewes in the prime sheep section. A line of almost 500 back country wethers met an animated sale, the top pen realising. $B. These, also, were taken by the trade. The store sheep yarding rose from 2700 last week to 5485. It consisted of 600 ewe

lambs, 3500 wether lambs, and 1385 adult store sheep. The store calf entry rose from 1000 last week to 1470, and consisted of 940 steer calves and 530 heifer calves. Store Calves

Store calves were yarded in larger numbers, and there was more than sufficient for the demand. In wet and wintry conditions, q smaller gallery followed the sale. Apart from the best and good average steer calves, the market was not up to last week's levels.

The sale opened on a race of good quality steer calves, and values for the better lots were little short of last week’s good values. Some of the medium calves were also selling well, but as the sale progressed, the medium and small calf began to sell at a discount. By the end of the day this lower grade calf was back to the rates of two weeks, ago, with values back 54 to 35.

Good average heifer calves continued to sell well, with several sales at more than MO, but the smalL ahd plainer lots eased in line with the steer calf market. were yarded in much smaller numbers this week. Wet and cold conditions detracted from the appearance of all calves. Adult Cattle Breeding cows and 20-month-Old steers made up the bulk of the adult store cattle yarding. Some quite good quality lots were Included in the steer ottering, but most of the cows were light and plain. Some Herefords topped the section at $B9, while one of the best prices for mated Angus cows was 976.50.
