Electricians Strike
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 7. Today, 500 electricians employed by Auckland contractors struck for more money. They want a ruling rate of $1.50 an hour and rejected the employers’ offer of $1.25.
Soon after the decision, the president of the Auckland Electrical Contractors’ Association (Mr G. Bishop) said: “This illegal action has been reported to the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand).”
The strike decided—according to union officials, by a solid majority in a secret bal-lot—-will affect wiring in home and factory construction, some maintenance wiring in factories and office buildings; and key work on the s4om Glenbrook steel mill project.
