FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep depression centred east of Cook Strait is moving south-east, and an intense anticyclone is centred over southeast Australia. Forecast: Canterbury and coastal areas of Marlborough.—Strong cold south-westerlies; changeable; scattered showers, but long fair intervals. Buller and Westland.—Moderate southerly winds; snow showers on the ranges; partly cloudy and cold elsewhere. Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Southwesterlies strong at times in exposed areas but mainly moderate; snow showers on the western ranges; elsewhere a few showers; cold. . Outlook: scattered showers, mainly in the east.
