Rival for Davis
B. F. Elder, whose appearance for Unwood in the Christchurch senior rßugby competition this season has intensified his rivalry with the regular Canterbury half-back, L. J. r Davis. During the last four years Elder played for 'Wairarapa and in this period he and Davis have held prominent places in the country’s half-back hlerachy, with their positions on the selectors’ short list constantly alternating. Davis, however, has been an AU Black reserve in each of the last three years, as weU as captain-
Ing the New Zealand Juniors in 1965 and 1966. Elder played for the New Zealand under-23 team in 1967. Both men were nominated by Canterbury for the All Black trial this month, with Davis being placed first in order of preference.
