THE FIRST PENSTOCK SECTIONS of the Tongariro hydro-electric power development in position. Four penstocks containing 2700 tons of steel will take water from the tunnel into the power station. The penstocks are 1200ft long and required the excavation of 300,000 cubic yards of spoil.
