Celebrations At Kerikeri
Celebrations commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the first organised European settlementjn New Zealand will be held-? at Kerikeri in August. 1 A re-enactment on August--16 of the handing over of Kerikeri to the pakeba by the Maori will be a highlight of the celebrations, which will begin three days earlier when, it is hoped, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and prominent Maori leaders will attend. >♦ Also on August 16 will be a . hangi in the Kerikeri domain, a special Rugby match and a Maori concert party in the ’ Kerikeri Memorial Hall. On that day, too, the Kororipo Pa will be open to the public for the first time. At present a commemorative booklet is being prepared by the Kerikeri 150th Anniversary Organisation. The names of all persons who
have subscribed $1 to the organisation will be printed. Former residents of Kerikeri or their descendants may send subscriptions to Mrs J. Bilkey, R.D., Kerikeri, before the list for the booklet closes on May 31.
Police Transfer.—Sergeant R. B. Kench has relieved Sergeant G. B. Riach at the Lyttelton Police Station. Sergeant' Riach has been transferred to the C. 1.8. in Christchurch.
