SAIGON, May 5.
South Vietnam could visualise some reduction of American troops in the country by the end of this year, according to an authorised version of President'Thieu’s remarks made at the week-end.
A Government spokesman said today that the President had been misquoted in the Vietnamese press as saying on Saturday that United States troop withdrawals might begin in August. The authorised version, given by the spokesman, stressed the replacement of United States troops by South Vietnamese rather than their withdrawal.
