Charge Of Murder

(N.Z. Press Association) GREYMOUTH, April 30. The Greymouth Magistrate’s Court was told today how a 56-year-old carpenter had borrowed a rifle on March 21—the day on which a wellknown West Coast sportsman was shot dead. Raymond Charles Bellis was appearing before Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., for the hearing of depositions on a charge of murder. He is represented by Mr J. Cadenhead, and Mr D. J. Tucker is appearing for the Crown. Bellis is accused of the murder of Joseph Edward Gillan, at Gladstone, near Greymouth, on March 21. Mr Gillan was shot dead allegedly with a .303 rifle.

Twenty witnesses are to be called by the Crown.
