Smith-Biolab Sales Up

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 30. Business of Smith-Biolab, Ltd, Auckland manufacturer and distributor of pharmaceutical and medical supplies, in the first two months of the current year rose on last year. It was also above budget estimates, the chairman (Mr P. Wynn-Williams) told the annual meeting today. The company must continue to try to diversify and if necessary, would have to acquire other businesses to achieve this, he said. He disclosed that one of the proposed joint ventures with overseas associates, mentioned in the annual report, was in the field of transfusion equipment, which would complement the company’s range of diagnostic materials used in blood transfusion and intravenous therapy. The merger of S. A. Smith and Company and Biological Laboratories had undoubtedly been to the advantage of the shareholders. Integration of the two companies had now been accomplished with a minimum of disruption, he said.
