EASIER TREND ACCELERATES IN ACTIVE TRADING

The sharemarket’s easier trend accelerated on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, with twice as many falls as rises, and leading issues showing up even weaker than the market over all. Trading was active, over a wide range.

Tekau Knitwear led the rises, with a gain of 15c, to come back to 220 c. M. O’Brien, which put a proposal to a meeting of creditorsyesterday, gained 1c to 50c. lit the overseas list, Mount Isa—which announced a higher interim profit and dividend—and E.Z.1., which announced an important ore discovery rose 5c each, to 950 c

and 525 c, but Peko Wallsend lost 20c to 1340 c, in spite of the stronger trend in gold miners overseas. Harvey, a strong performer for more than, a year, was 7c cheaper at 445 c, and N.Z. Forest Products shed 2c to 426 c; the ex Bartholomew shares sold 4c down, to 418 c, Shetland, which recently completed a successful takeover of McLeod Brothers, fell

7c to 258 c, and Waitaki, the unsuccessful bidder for C.F.M., eased 5c to 200 c.
