CENTRE RELAYS

Olympic Is Favoured

Olympic A should have no difficulty winning the second event on the Canterbury cross-country programme, the centre relays, at Pleasant Point Domain on Saturday afternoon. The team set a new race record when it won the 13 jmile University Hagley Memorial baton relay two weeks ago and its chances are strengthened this week by the withdrawal of top runners from several other teams. Thirty-five teams have entered for the senior event, in which four runnrs in each will run three miles. The Olympic team is J. Sheddan, who is still a junior until one week before the Canterbury championships, J. D. Macdonald, A. Bayard, and G. Clarke. The race for second place will be interesting and the Olympic B team stands an equal chance with Cashmere (which includes J. T. Power, who rested from athletics during the latter half of last season), University, Christchurch and St Martins. University has been weakened by the withdrawal of B. Taylor. There will also be colts’ and womens’ races. In the senior women’s grade there are two teams. Pioneer Ladies, which has had to run most races alone, will now have opposition from Cashmere.
