Wallabies Almost Cause Upset

Wallabies, for the second time this season, went close to scoring an upset victory when it took one of the championship favourites, Avonslde, to 7-5 during the third round of the A grade inter-club table tennis competition last evening. Wallabies needed to win the final doubles in straight games to draw the contest.

When N. A. Cox and R. J. Scott (Wallabies) led 18-7_in the first game against Ling Nan Ming and M. J. Flewellen It appeared as though the team would win a key contest, but Ling Nan Ming and Flewellen took full advantage of their opponents' loose play to recover brilliantly and Win, 21-19, 2113 fcarUer, Scott had beaten Ling Nan Ming in three games. Slow play was the order of the evening in Linwood is match with Riccarton I. In three separate encounters the time limit had to be placed on the players. Linwood I won, 7-4, to loin Hoon Hay and Avonside I as the only unbeaten teams.
