$25,000 Prize

A Cobden coalminer, Mr M. McQuilkin, employed at the Strongman State mine, has won first prize of $25,000 in a Tattersail's sweepstake. Mr McQuilkin and his wife have been taking tickets in the lottery since they were married 25 years ago. Their only previous successes were two prizes of £5. The latest ticket was taken by Mr McQuilkin in the name of Snapper Syndicate, on behalf of the family.—(F.O.O.R.) Publicity Award A top Canadian publicity award has been won by a New Zealand Meat Producers' Board poster which has been exhibited on billboards throughout North America. A French-language version of the poster portrays a family seated at a meal of New Zealand lamb. It carries the inscription “Une faim du loup." which means “As hungry as a wolf." The Coq d’Argent Award was received on the board’s behalf by Mr A. W. Broadbent, the New Zealand Trade Commissioner, Montreal. The poster was produced for the board by Its Canadian agency. Lost Glider Fourteen-year-old Errol Smith, of 58 Kirkwood Avenue, Riccarton, is looking for his 3ft wing-span model glider which was caught in a thermal current above the Canterbury University sports ground at Ham on Sunday afternoon. The glider spiralled up in ever-widening circles. Errol followed it on his bicycle to the corner of Blighs Road and Papanui Roads, but the glider, still ascending in a clear sky, went out of sight.
