Background of sport
• The Hawke’s Bay golfer,: J. M. Dorreen, who won all his matches in the recent Freyberg Rose Bowl tournament at Hutt, is the son of N. Dorreen, who won fame as a footballer and cricketer j in Christchurch in the 19205. Dorreen senior was a dashing wing three-quarters for Merivaie and represented Canterbury from 1922 to 1928. As a wicket-keeper-batsman, he played for St Albans and Canterbury, scoring an unbeaten! century in his second first-; class match. He is now managing a; farm near Hastings.
