Approval Given For Egg Floor Move

Town-planning approval for the Combined Co-operative Distributors, Ltd, to move the Christchurch egg floor from Tuam Street to a 50,000-square foot building complex to be erected on a seven-acre site at the corner of Cranford Street and Winters Road has been given by the Waimairi County Council.

The company's general manager (Mr F. Piper) said yesterday that the approval was still subject to objection, within 28 days, from the Regional Planning Authority. The company was anxious to get the green light and proceed with its plans. The application, for a conditional use in rural and residential A zones, was given at a meeting of the council's works and reserves committee (almost a full meeting of the council) on the recommendation of a town-planning sub-committee which heard submissions last week. The subcommittee said it recommended the cond'tional use permit after considering the evidence, particularly with regard to the low productivity and irregular shape of the site, and to the merits of moving the egg floor from Tuam Street Nine conditions were set by the council, one of them requiring the entrance ways from Winters Road and Cranford Street to be sited and built to the council's satisfaction, including the construction of a dedicated road which, in the opinion of the council, will be necessary. Another condition reserves to the council the right to require the company to remove and use to the satisfaction of the council top soil that would be affected by development of the site. The company is asked to

; submit plans of the site layiout and the proposed locaI tion of buildings to the satis'faction of the council, and to form, seal and maintain reading and parking space. Landscaping of the surroundings is also required. The council wants a bouse on the Winters Road frontage demolished and removed, sewers and stormwater drainage to the satisfaction of the Drainage Board, council approval for all advertising on the site, and steps taken by the company to keep noise or any other nuisance at a minimum at all times.
