W.D. Regional Schools

Farm budgeting, the changing pattern of rural life, and women in the home and community are among subjects to be studied by country women at regional schools. The schools would be arranged by co-ordinating committees, Miss Jean Smith, of Clarkville. a Dominion vicepresident of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers,

said at the annual meeting of the South Canterbury provincial executive, in Timaru. Miss Smith spoke of the philanthropic aims and objects of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. The provincial president (Mrs L. F. Baker) outlined services to the community undertaken by the Women's division. These included meals-on-wheels, sponsored patients in mental hospitals, sponsored children, entertaining elderly citizens, providing comforts for elderly hospital patients, collecting for various appeals and distributing fruit, jam and biscuits to homes and institutions. Guests at the meeting included Mr D. G. Baker (junior vice-president) and Mr D. R. Rowe (provincial secretary), Federated Farmers; Mrs A. J. Glass, South Canterbury C.W.I. Federation president: and Miss J. Gray, chairman of the South Canterbury Country Girls’ Clubs.
