ANSETT MOVE

Manufacture Of Aircraft A subsidiary of Ansett Transport Industries, Ltd, and the giant North American Rockwell Corporation, a major contractor in the Apollo moon probe, have signed a joint agreement which could open the way for production of American aircraft in Australia. Mr R. M. (Reg) Ansett, chairman and managing director of Ansett, announced details of the agreement last night. He said N.A.R. would consider the production of aircraft in Australia under licence.

In return, the agreement authorises the Ansett subsidiary. the N.I.C. Instrument Company, to “undertake the technical and market development of certain N.A.R. interests” in Australia. PapuaNew Guinea, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore. Mr Ansett said a mission from the United States group group was expected here soon to assess local aircraft manufacturing facilities.

The ElU’s Australian company does economic research in New Zealand and other South Pacific countries, and Mr Rippin has recently visited New Guinea, Fiji and New Caledonia co-ordinating the work of representatives. Of particular interest are the preparations in New Zealand for container facilities, and Mr Rippin will discuss with interested parties the work of the EIU in this field.
